Our Mission & Values

Our Mission

The mission of Mississippi Valley Christian School is to assist parents in fulfilling their God-given responsibility of training their children to be conformed to the image of Christ. We are developing students spiritually, academically, socially, and physically in order to fulfill the Great Commission.

Our Values

Daniel Wallace has said, “It would be better for us to have some doubts in an honest pursuit of the truth than it would be for us to be certain about something that is not true.”

We are an institution of learning. Our goal is to train children to be Christian learners for life.

We begin with the Bible, the Knowledge of Truth, as the foundation of learning.

We believe God's ways and thoughts are higher than our ways and thoughts.
We believe God's wisdom preceded creation.
We believe those who find wisdom find life and receive favor of the Lord.

We choose to stand on these three specific foundational truths.

1.God ordained parents to parent their children.
2.God ordained pastors to pastor their churches.
3.God ordained churches to teach sound doctrine.
4.God did not ordain the Christian School.

We provide a service for Christian families to help them educate their children and teach them to walk with God.

∙We do not want to parent your child.
∙We do not want to pastor your church.
∙We do not want to correct the doctrinal differences between the dozens of churches represented at our school.

We are intentional about not undermining parents, pastors, or churches.

We have a Pastoral Council of conservative local pastors to assist us in upholding and even strengthening our doctrinal statement.
We teach the fundamentals of the Christian Faith and a Biblical worldview.
We qualify church families through their Pastor’s recommendations.

We do not teach personal preferences.

We believe things not specifically taught as sin are matters of liberty.
We believe in liberty, but not license to sin.

We teach biblical principles, a personal walk with Christ, and Spirit-led living.

We teach modesty as a biblical principle.

You choose what is acceptable dress for your family. It is the parent’s responsibility to set this standard for their family.

We teach purity as a biblical principle.

You choose your children’s ability to date, have devices, or access the internet. It is the parent’s responsibility to set this standard for their family.

We teach the Authority of Scripture as a biblical principle.

We will not advocate for a version, a manuscript, or a translation technique. It is the parent’s responsibility to set this standard, in part, by the church they choose.

We teach honoring God in music through message and lyric with a heart of worship.

You choose what is stylistically acceptable in your home and church.
It is the parent’s responsibility to set this standard for their family.

Our purpose is to provide a Christian school option for the Riverbend community of believers, not for any specific church.

Our prayer is that we can assist parents to teach their children to be Spirit-led and allow the Spirit to guide them into all truth.

See What We Believe (below) for further explanation of our fundamental beliefs.

What We Believe

  • We believe the whole Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 as the verbally inspired and infallible Word of God.

  • We believe Jesus Christ was born of Mary, the Virgin, and is the Son of God, and is God the Son.

  • We believe that Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

  • We believe that He rose from the grave the third day according to the Scriptures.

  • We believe that He, only, is the great High Priest, and we need not the intercession of any man, but that Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us.

  • We believe that Christ will come again in person, bodily, visibly, to establish His Kingdom on earth.

  • We believe that in order to be saved, the soul must be born again –“Ye must be born again.” (John 3:7)

  • We believe that every truly born again soul should declare his faith by the act of baptism (immersion in water) setting forth the Lord’s death, burial and resurrection.

  • We believe that the local church is a body of baptized believers whose mission is to glorify God and to preach the Gospel to a lost world.

Statement of Human Sexuality

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside the bond of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance. (Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5, 13; Gen. 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:26-29, I Cor. 5:1; 6:9; I Thess.4:1-8; Heb. 13:4)

We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. (Gen. 2:24; Rom. 7:2; I Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23)

Mississippi Valley Christian School is a member of both the Illinois Association of Christian Schools and the American Association of Christian Schools.
